Healing, Strength, and a New Beginning: The Heart of SecondSpring

In social gatherings, people normally ask where you’re from and what you do. For the last several years, I have introduced myself as Jasmin, OFW, working for a global brand. I have since learned to describe myself not based on where I’m from and what I do but who I am. For the longest time, it was voracious reader, terrible singer and semi-good wife. Until recently, I was able to add one more: cancer survivor.

My doctors braced me for the insidious nature of the treatments but there was no way they could anticipate the impact of the side effects. Because of the type of my cancer and the nature of the treatments, I went immediately into menopause. No grace period to glide into it and none of its traditional symptoms – no hot flashes nor night sweats – but there was joint pain. And the prescription to best manage it was building more muscles via strength training and ensuring more protein in my diet.

There have always been two things I cannot resist: complex men and complex carbohydrates. I found it hard meeting the protein requirement I needed to build muscle. My Aussie husband was always into fitness and was taking protein supplements for his own needs. I would dip into his stash, but I struggled with its taste and texture and frankly, I thought that protein supplements were only for hard core body builders. The big black tubs made it even less appealing.

And that’s when the idea for a premium protein blend especially designed for women came to life. Something for women like me who are finding their bodies changing but instead of focusing on losing weight, focusing on gaining strength. Women coming into their “second spring” – enjoying the gift of wisdom and the innate confidence that goes with it.
